Advice for some LED strips in my bedroom. All of the lights in my new apartment are from the Tradfri system and I use the Ikea app to control them. I have an electrical socket behind them however I would like it to be integrated into my smart home system.
There is special one for 24V. Maybe remove the plastic, so strip the smart plug.
How would you like to control the lights? Only through the app? Or do you want a physical switch? Motion sensor? Do you want to dim them? A combo of controllers? There are a lot of solutions to your question. I have two dimmer pucks controlling a room with three Tradfri drivers, and can turn the lights off completely.
I can have a dimmer on each side of the room and am considering adding a third dimmer for convenience. Can you add more than two control devices in a room?
That would work well for my bedroom where my wife and have separate lamps but only want one on.
Hacking The IKEA TRÅDFRI LED Power Supply
Also explains why my dimmer only controls one lamp. I believe you can. If you want two separate controllers, each controlling their own light, that should be doable. You might need to pair them away from each other to avoid initial confusion.
With a smart LED bulb you can dim and switch the color of your lighting, and adapt your lighting to different activities, for example a warmer light for dinner and a brighter, colder light for working.
You can also create several groups of light sources and control them in different ways. Helps lower your electric bill because dimming the lights saves energy. Use an opal light bulb if you have an ordinary lamp shade or lamp and want an even, diffused distribution of light. This product allows wireless dimming. The bulb is not suitable to use with hardwired dimmers. Special waste handling may be required. Please contact your local authorities for more information.

It works flawlessly without hagving to tamper with the soldering iron. It is a very interesting resource, and kudos for reverse engineering this product, however there is no need to make life more complicated than it needs to be. Replacing the curve generation function in the firmware with a modified one results in a much more usable night light.
Plus there are at least six GPIO pins available if external integration is desired, such as a local button press, motion sensor or other trigger. Is it possible to change that without to much fiddling. I think Trammell cited that they preferred a different brightness table for the PWM values, to the original table in firmware. Good reference material for the rest of us, for when we feel the need to adjust a commercial product. I did not have the same experience with openhab and tradfri.
I simply could not pair some of the bulbs with the gateway and it also forgets them from time to time…. Youbdonrealize which site your on, right? That said, its not even open source firmware, so much work left to do eh. Cool to see that Ikea used a logarithmic brightness curve instead of a linear one. I am glad to see that at least in this device they used a switching converter to get the 3V for the radio.
The lights that I have from them end up consuming more energy in sleep than active…. I mean just the part for the radio. What I figured is that the main converter is something around V and is used to drive a few LEDs in series. From there on they use a linear regulator down to 3V for the radio module, which should consume mA. This is how you get to around 0.Find it in-store.
Now it's really easy for anyone to use smart lighting. The only reason why I didn't was because I'm still waiting for my HE over a month now in transit I just looked at my store and they didn't have any. Now it says they do.
Try to avoid that place as much as possible I'm using Glopodo for it at the moment it's compatible with Hue but keeps dropping it's connection to the hub. Tagging Royski becaue I know he uses some of these. I have a mixture of Norrfly strips and some spots connected to them.
Great for the price. Also using the puck dimmers with a very simple driver, clockwise for on, anti for off. I don't think any other protocol than DMX is man enough to handle that, definitely not zigbee or z-wave.
Interesting it works quite ok for me in ST. I might test no e the lights to HE when I get them So could they be used to drive solid state relays for switching higher current loads Can control color or CT and dim all the way up and down. That is what I am working on too. I really like the individual addressable LED mode. Working on year round lighting on exterior of the home first. If works I have a dual solution for home accent lighting and holiday music controlled scenes. It is set up so that you create different bulbs for segments of the Strip.
Controlling individual chips from a system like HE isn't practical. It requires too many messages being sent too fast to make something like that practical. Think about the timing and processing that would be required. If you are looking for something to create animations with neopixels, look at the McLighting project.
Can be interfaced with webcalls. My setup is a little complicated as I actually have 2 boards per strip. I switch between them with a relay controled by the McLighting board. Only way I've found to have both animation type control and simple everyday lighting control at the same time. Royski How did you get your driver connected to HE? Somel January 5,am 1. Somel January 5,am 3.One thing I am missing from their lineup is a simple LED strip dimmer. Why not strip the brains from a light and make one?
The width of the pulse determines the brightness of the light.
The trick to re-purposing a dimmer would be to extract the chip and find the PWM pin. Did you use this instructable in your classroom?

Zigbee LED Strip Dimmer (IKEA Trådfri Hack)
We now have the brains of the smart light. Others have done deeper analysis and determined that under the steel case there is a general purpose 32bit processor which could be used much in the same was as Arduinos and ESP units. However, for the purpse of this project we are only interested in three pins.
See the drawing for the pinout. The circuit runs on 3. To make it breadboard friendly, I suggest soldering a 3-pin header onto the board. Bend the pins a bit to compensate for lower lead spacing of the circuit board. This step is not entirely necessary. However, I suggest cutting the plastic off the LED amp circuit to allow for direct solder access. Follow the circuit drawing. You may want to start by wiring everything up on a breadboard and when you have that working, move it over to a prototype board.
The latter requires basic soldering skills. Put the project in a case. If you have a 3D-printer and organized your components as I did you can download the STL files here and print the case seen in the pictures. Question 7 months ago on Introduction. Hi Pal, if i wanted to use a standard 12v driver not a RGB What changes would i need to make to your schematic.
What you have done is great!! Thanks Leone. Question 1 year ago on Step 4. Great project. May i ask for some details regarding the LED amp?
